It's October! Also know as Breast Cancer Awareness month. Thankfully, none of the women (or men) in my family have not been diagnosed (that I know of). However, I still want to bring light to this very important issue. The incidence rate of breast cancer among women under 45 is higher for African American women compared to white women (Sisters Network Inc.)
Too many women are suffering from breast cancer. If we can talk about what happened in the last episode of any reality show, we should be able to talk about breast cancer and self-examinations.
It is very important that all women get screened for early detection of any abnormalities on or around the breast and women 40 years old and over should get a mammogram once a year.
Sisters Network, a national African American breast cancer survivorship organization has a wealth of information about the work they do to assist breast cancer survivors.
